Student Empowerment Program

The Student Empowerment Program (SEP) application is now open!.The scholarship application deadline is on: 15th June 2019..


About the Program:

The SEP program provides excelling low-income students with:

  •   A university education through scholarships, with an SEP program affiliated university/college
  •   Professional internships and on-the-job training through LOYAC
  •   Workshops in personal and professional development
  •   Community service through LOYAC
  •   Ongoing involvement with LOYAC’s team for the duration of your studies

Who Should Apply:

  •   Academically outstanding high school graduate or current senior student in high schools in Kuwait who plans to enroll as a freshman in university/college in the Spring of 2019.
  •   Highschool certificate with an average of 80%
  •   Age requirements up to 30 years old may apply to this program.
  •   Proficient in English
  •   Student born in Kuwait regardless of citizenship
  •   Valid ID

Application Requirements:

  •   Apply online to include information on your academic and extracurricular accomplishments, financial background, 1 short essay, short answer questions
  •   A high school transcript and additional transcripts (if applicable)

Dates and Deadlines *

Student Empowerment Program application is due

June 2019

• Selected students will attend first phase interview.

June-July 2019

Finalists will attend SEP orientation which includes :
• Scheduling English placement test
• Applying to college/university of choice

August 2019

• Engage in a community service program
• Attend LOYAC professional or personal development workshops
•  Attend English Language sessions if needed

August- September 2019

University classes begins

September 2019

Selection Criteria:

When selecting Finalists, we consider the following questions:

  •   Does this student have the motivation and academic ability to thrive at one of our college partners?
  •   Has this student overcome socio-economic obstacles to achieve academic excellence?
  •   The students selected as finalists based on their academic achievement, financial and personal circumstances, and a variety of other factors.

Finalists Requirements:

Finalists who are admitted to the SEP program are required to :

  •   Excel in their studies during each academic year with GPA no lower than 90%
  •   Complete a mandatory internship during each academic year
  •   Engage in a community service program each academic year
  •   Attend LOYAC professional or personal development workshops
  •   Attend LOYAC mentorship sessions with designated mentor
  •   Be an active member at LOYAC activities and events
